The Scarlet Letter a la Breakfast Club There are many modern day allusions to The Scarlet Letter. Perhaps one allusion which has not been noticed for what it is would be the children in the movie, The Breakfast Club. In this movie, a group of five school children from all different walks of life, whom all attend the same school, all have detention on the same Saturday. They are required to write a paper during their time in detention, and there are a lot of shenanigans which occur.
The connection between these school children and the character Hester Prynne in the novel The Scarlet Letter is simple. Both Hester and the group of schoolmates in The Breakfast Club, Brian Johnson (

What religion are you I care not (Unless you are a Westborro Baptist Churcher. If that's the case don't talk to me.).

What race are you I care not.

What gender are you I care not.

What sex are you I care not.

What orientation are you I care not.

What ethnicity are you I care not.

Just be a good, loving, caring, accepting person. Treat others with the respect you'd want to be treated with. When someone needs to talk, listen. Just don't be mean to others, don't be as irritating as a gnat, and I will try my best to be nice to you. I will never insult you for anything other than how much you irk me. Please, let's make this world a more civilized place. Let's try and get along. We don't have to agree with each other, but we definitely don't have to kill each other.

I couldn't agree more with this. I especially like the last sentence. We'll never all agree with each other (to me the world would be boring if people didn't have their own opinions) but we should still respect and accept each other--it's the least we can do in this insane world.
